Meaningless gesture?

As usual, the Fond du Lac Reporter editors just don't get it! But they aren't alone, it seems that a great many in the MSM are clueless. With the exception of Canada and Belgium, all countries have a "national" language. This is the language that the government does it's business. The forms for any government entity is in that language. Simple! The writer asks "What the point?" Say what?? What's the point? The point is, again, simple! You speak, read and write in the language of the nation. This doesn't mean you can't speak another language as well, but you need a working knowledge of the language to be able to do business with any entity. Criminy! Is this so hard to understand? It goes on to state:
Actually, it does serve one function - to provide another distraction of an issue to the complex and much more relevant issue of immigration policy reform.
HUH? To me, this is a BIG part of the whole immigration issue! Forms in other languages SHOULD be eliminated. If I move to France (God forbid) would the French government make sure I had any government forms in English, or would they expect me to learn the language so I could function in that county. This would be true of any country who's language isn't English. I've traveled in countries where the language was different, I took a dictionary with me, so I could communicate. If I actually moved to those countries, the first thing I would do is enroll in a class to LEARN THE LANGUAGE! The editorial goes on, but if I keep this up, I'm going to seriously lose my cool! :)
