NY-Same Sex Marriage
The New York Appeals Court refuses to allow same sex marriage. In a 4-2 decision, they've stated their laws "clearly limits marriage between a man and a woman". Same sex couples argue this violates their constitutional rights.
I've read the U.S. Constitution, I haven't seen anywhere in there it's ok for men to marry men, or women to marry women. Why would the NY Constitution include it, considering when it was written. I admit, I've never read their constitution. So, I can't say for sure there isn't something in there that states anyone can marry anyone for any reason.
What I find interesting about this whole debate is the fact that the same people (heterosexual) who are pushing for same sex marriage are of the same generation that wanted to get rid of marriage altogether back in the 60's. Anything conventional (aka establishment) was taboo, and it all needed to be done away with.
And before anyone starts blathering that I'm anti-homosexual - NO, I am not!
UPDATE: Georgia shot it down too.
