ACLU
Sen. Brownback:
ACLU -- Not Taxpayers -- Should Foot the Bill for Church-State Lawsuits
I agree with this statement on so many levels, I don't even know where to start. An organization that has done it's damnedest to destroy the foundations of this country should not be rewarded with taxpayer money. Instead, I would like to have every single member crawl on hands and knees, in sackcloth, begging forgiveness of every person in this country. Most especially the children who have suffered so much from not having a strong foundation of morality taught in the public schools.
Senator Sam Brownback (Rep.-KS) says public officials who fear costly litigation often cave in to the mere threat of lawsuits alleging violation of the separation of church and state. That is why he is sponsoring a Senate bill that would block plaintiffs from collecting attorneys fees for lawsuits alleging "establishment of religion."Threatening with the almighty dollar sign has become quite fashionable with the secular left. "Hurt them in the wallet, and all will cave." It's often quite hard to stand on principal when you don't have the means to do it.
The Public Expressions of Religion Act (PERA) (S. 3696) was the topic of discussion at hearings on Wednesday (August 2) before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Property Rights. The U.S. House is considering similar legislation (H.R. 2679) that is sponsored by Indiana Congressman John Hostettler. Brownback has made it clear in recent weeks that if groups like the ACLU want to sue city after city for displays of religious images, it should be on their own dime -- not at taxpayers' expense.Cheers for Senator Brownback!
At yesterday's hearing, Brownback said attorneys fees should not be awarded to plaintiffs who file lawsuits alleging violation of separation of church and state. "Many jurisdictions simply acquiesce to the demands of the ACLU and prohibit all displays of religious faith in order to avoid the potential expense of litigation," the senator said. "Legal fees is the threat that the ACLU uses."We have seen many organizations fight against the ACLU for as long as they can, and still cave to their whims. If the "paid guns" filing complaints by an atheist won't get paid, then I'd say, odds are, they'll stop taking such cases. Maybe. No doubt some George Soros type will come along and agree to foot the bill. And would someone please tell me where that phrase "separation of church and state" is in the Constitution? I've read that document many times and it's not there, so why does that one little phrase cause so much trouble. If I could go back in time, I'd have a long talk with ol' Thomas about writing that letter to that Baptist preacher in just that way. I'm sure he could have gotten his point across without using that particular phrase. He was, after all, quite a gifted writer. This is one of the most dangerous organizations in our country today, and no matter how much we'd like to end their rampage against faith, we seem to fall short when it come to the financial aspect.
