Long Day!
The service for my mother in law was quite nice, very well handled by the funeral home, Werner-Harmsen. The pastor is new and had never met her, but she managed to talk to many people and get enough information so that it sounded like they had been life long friends.
The day is almost over, but the work is just now starting. Waupun has some strange laws. We had the funeral this afternoon, but can't bury my mother in law until Tuesday. Now, I could understand having to wait if it was the dead of winter, but it's not. No, there was a group of people who decided many years ago, no one was to be buried on a Sunday, and it's never changed. You can't plan when a person dies, so you shouldn't be able to decide who gets buried when. Since tomorrow is Labor Day, evidentlly, a person can't be buried then either. So, we have to wait till Tuesday.
Then come the lawyers and probate court and all that nonsense. After living in her house for 55 years, can you imagine the things she's accumulated? Memories of her kids growing up, souvenirs from trips taken, photos, do dads and knick knacks.
We've only lived in this house for 6 years, and the prospect of moving is daunting. I'm starting to rethink our "stuff". So, can you imagine 55 years?
I'd like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers, it was a great comfort through this ordeal. She is one lady who is going to be sorely missed.
