FdL County Board

One of the first things Sam Meyer when first elected to the Fond du Lac County Board did was to address the size of the board. The board has 37 members and Sam thought it was too big. Other board members didn't think too well of this idea, perhaps because they might lose their seats if the board size was reduced? This didn't bother Sam. He told me even if it meant he lost his own seat, it was important to shrink the size of government, starting at the local level. The board created an ad hoc committee to consider this dilemma that included of 2 of the most liberal people in Fond du Lac county, Judy Goldsmith, former president of NOW, and citizen member Diane Beres, president of the League of Women Voters of the Ripon area. People in Fond du Lac have been gathering signatures to get the matter on the ballot in November, and if I'm not mistaken, have more than enough to get this done. Why did the board form the committee? Their reasons for doing so sound perfectly reasonable. However, it just might be because they don't want to leave the possibility of losing their seat of county power to the voters of Fond du Lac county.
