WSJ Editorial
Evidently, the Wisconsin State Journal isn't paying attention to the rest of the state. In their editorial, Stop bellowing; help UW thrive, they basically slam Rep. Steve Nass (R-Whitewater).
The story line typically goes like this: Outraged lawmaker castigates state university again for (fill in the blank - insufficient patriotism, wasteful spending, mismanagement or wildly unconventional thought). The raging lawmaker gets to grab headlines and score cheap political points. The University of Wisconsin System suffers an excessive spanking and tries to strike back.Actually, throughout my trip, I've heard UW-Madison in the headlines, not Nass. And it's not pretty.
All the while, the reputation of the entire state of Wisconsin is trashed.Uh, not really, although I've had people ask me how the people of Wisconsin can allow such a moonbat to teach at a university that USE to be one of the best in the country. Their words, not mine.
UW then made the right decision to give Barrett the benefit of the doubt and allow him to continue teaching a single class. Nass made his point. The UW respectfully reacted and made its decision. The flap should have ended there. And the rest of the country is not only laughing at that decision, they're shaking their heads in total bemusement. I listened to a replay of Mike Gallagher's interview with Nass this afternoon, and I have to tell you, I was not impressed. He's not a very good interview, at least not on this one. I've never heard him any place else.
