Mubarak criticizes US for being too slow on Lebanon
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak on Thursday criticized the Bush administration for being too slow in helping to resolve the crisis in Lebanon.
"The United States did not move sufficiently and quickly enough to contain the situation," Mubarak was quoted as saying by the state-run Middle East News Agency.
He also blamed other UN Security Council members for their inaction. "The international dealing with the crisis, whether inside or outside the Security Council, lacks necessary speed and balance," Mubarak said.
He blamed the Lebanese standoff on the international community's failure to push for a peace settlement between Israel and the Palestinians.
"Unless the United States and other members of the Quartet admit [their failure to address the Palestinian peace process] this crisis will only breed more crises," Mubarak said.
He is kidding, right? It's everybody else's fault but those who started the whole mess? President Bush should have gone over there and slapped someone's hand... anybody's... as long as he did something. Good grief! And expecting anything other than inaction from the UN is just plain fantasy. Wait a minute... didn't former President Clinton have the folks over for tea and crumpets a few years back, and everyone came out smiling? Israel gave away control of certain chunks of land to Arafat, and look what he did with that land, turned it into a breeding ground for MORE homicidal maniacs. By the way, President Mubarak, aren't you right next door? What have y'all done lately? Helping out are you? How? Did I miss that memo?
