Marriage Protection Amendment
A few years ago, the idea we needed a Marriage Protection Amendment to our Constitution struck me as absurd. Why on earth would we need such an amendment, it's just too obvious? I mean, what else can marriage be but between one man and one woman? Well, my position changed gradually. And it actually had very little to do with my faith, it had more to do with plain ol' common sense. The purpose of marriage is "to be fruitful and multiply", and sorry, ya just can't do that with two men or two women.
Lately, the argument has been that there are more important things to worry about, like the war on terror, the price of a gallon of gas, etc. All very important, but perhaps not as important as saving the basics of our civilization, because without the family, we won't have much left to fight for.
I'm not anti-gay. Personally, I don't give a happy crap if you're gay or not (just don't shove it in my face and I won't shove my heterosexuality in yours). But marriage? I knew that those in Washington, D. C. didn't care what we peons out here in the real world want or think. THEY know what's best. HUMPH! This vote just brings it home a lot harder than I expected.
Personal opinion: It's time to give those like Arlen Spector, Olympia Snow and Chuck Hagel their walking papers. Removing a good chunk of those liberal Dems wouldn't make me too unhappy either. :)
