Dream Act
One of Bill O'Reilly's favorite reporterettes/columnist is at it again. Evidently, Ms. Hernandez is incapable of "getting it". What part of "illegal" doesn't she understand?
Because Carla (who asked that her last name not be used) is in this country illegally, she doesn't qualify for most financial aid. Even if she manages to work her way through school with a low-paying job  the only kind available to her  without legal status, she would be blocked from pursuing her profession.I feel for this young lady, she only wants a better life for herself and future children. I'm wondering if the people who hired her mother to "clean other people's bathrooms" have been paying social security on this illegal employee? How about those whemployeded Carla for that "low-paying job"? Perhaps Carla should return to the country of her origin and apply for a student visa. Perhaps she should go home and apply for LEGAL immigration status. Maybe I'm wrong. People like Carla and her mother are making an effort to contribute to society in the U.S. And perhaps exceptions can be made for them, and those like them. But once you start making those exceptions, there will be many other "exceptions" made. It will become viciousus cycle, never ending, with the problem never solved.
